Life Transitions

Change, even when it is positive, can be deeply unsettling. Career shifts, the end of a relationship, becoming a parent, moving to a new place, retirement, or simply the feeling that life is calling you in a new direction — transitions ask us to let go of one version of ourselves and step into another. That process can bring up fear, uncertainty, grief, and self-doubt.

Counselling during life transitions can help you make sense of what you are moving through, reconnect with your values and strengths, and approach the next chapter with greater clarity and confidence. You do not have to figure it all out alone.

Every ending holds the seed of a new beginning. We are here to help you find yours.

Question and Answer

My change is a positive one — is it strange to need counselling for something good?

Not at all. Even welcome changes — a new job, a new relationship, becoming a parent, retiring — can bring up anxiety, grief for what is being left behind, or a loss of identity. The emotional weight of transition has nothing to do with whether the change is good or bad. If you are finding it hard, that is reason enough to seek support.

I feel lost and don't know who I am anymore. Can counselling help with that?

Yes — and this experience of losing your sense of self is one of the most common feelings that accompanies major life change. Counselling can help you reconnect with your values, explore what truly matters to you, and begin to build a clearer sense of who you are and who you want to become in this new chapter.

I know what is changing but I can't seem to take the next step. Can you help with that?

Absolutely. Fear, self-doubt, and inertia are extremely common during transitions, even when we know what we want or need to do. Counselling can help you explore what is holding you back — whether that is fear of failure, fear of success, or something deeper — and support you in moving forward with greater confidence.

How is counselling for life transitions different from just talking to a friend?

A good friend is invaluable — but counselling offers something different. Your counsellor has no personal stake in the choices you make, no agenda, and no need for you to be okay. They bring professional training, genuine neutrality, and a structured space where the focus is entirely on you. This creates conditions for self-exploration that are very difficult to replicate elsewhere.
